Ethical Standards for Attorneys-at-Law in Sri Lanka

In Sri Lanka, the ethical standards for Attorneys-at-Law are governed by the Judicature Act No. 2 of 1978 and the Supreme Court Rules. Attorneys must be of good character and legally competent to be admitted by the Supreme Court under Section 40(1). The Court has the authority, under Section 42, to suspend or remove an attorney for misconduct, malpractice, deceit, or criminal offenses. These laws ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of the legal profession.
