On the 22nd of October 2025, the members of the Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Rugby Football Club had the distinct honour of meeting His Lordship the Chief Justice, Preethi Padman Surasena. The occasion was marked by heartfelt expressions of gratitude, warmth, and the true spirit of camaraderie that unites the legal fraternity both on and off the field.
Addressing His Lordship, the team captain remarked,
“My Lord, the Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Rugby Football Club is more than just a team — it is a fraternity built on the principles of discipline, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.”
He further emphasized the importance of leadership and encouragement in their journey:
“My Lord, an endeavour such as ours thrives on encouragement. We have been exceptionally fortunate, as Your Lordship’s unwavering support and encouragement have been invaluable to us.”
Reflecting on the deep connection between His Lordship and the sport, the captain added,
“When there was nobody, Your Lordship was always there. The Honourable Chief Justice has supported rugby for a long time and was himself a passionate rugby player during his university years. His Lordship’s sons are also members of the Sri Lanka Lawyers’ Rugby Football Club”
shared a few past memories with the rugby players;
He went on to note how the team continues to draw strength from His Lordship’s appreciation of their sporting spirit:
“Knowing that the head of our nation’s judiciary values our sporting pursuits has been a tremendous source of inspiration for every member of our team.”
