
His Lordship commenced his primary education at St. Mary’s College, Kegalle and completed his secondary education at St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy. He pursued legal studies at the Sri Lanka Law College and was admitted to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law in 1987.
Following his legal practice, His Lordship began his distinguished judicial career on 5th December 1994 with his appointment as a Magistrate. Over the next 17 years, he served in various jurisdictions as both a Magistrate and District Judge, including a tenure as the District Judge of Colombo. In 2011, marking a significant milestone, His Lordship was elevated to the High Court, where he served in diverse capacities across civil, criminal, and commercial jurisdictions. Notably, he was among the Judges appointed to the first Permanent High Court at bar.
During his judicial tenure, His Lordship obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree and a Diploma in Forensic Medicine and Science from the University of Colombo.
His Lordship has actively participated in numerous workshops, training programs, and knowledge- sharing sessions organized by international universities and legal training institutions. In 2011, he undertook a specialized course on ‘International Law for Judges from Sri Lanka’ in the Netherlands. He also attended a workshop on ‘Judicial Administration’ conducted by Public Administration International (PAI) in the United Kingdom. In 2019, he participated in the ‘White Collar Crime Survey’ organized by the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Additionally, he has participated in a training program on ‘Judicial Reform and Excellence’ in Singapore, as well as training courses at judicial institutes in Malaysia and India.
His Lordship was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 2020, and subsequently, on 12th January 2025, he was elevated to the Supreme Court.
