Hon. Justice Kumudini Wickremasinghe

Justice Kumudini Wickremasinghe is a distinguished Judge of the Supreme Court, currently serving as a presiding judge. She took oaths as an Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court in 1986, with more than 39 years in the bar, earning a reputation for her exceptional legal acumen and unwavering commitment to justice. Joined the Attorney General’s Department in 1988 as a State Counsel. Appointed as a High Court Judge in 2006 to the Criminal/ Civil Appellate High Court. Thereafter, Chief High Court Judge of the Western Province. Elevated to the Court of Appeal in February 2015. Acted as President of the Court of Appeal, before ascending to the esteemed Supreme Court in 2020. Appointed as a Session Judge of the Supreme Court of Fiji in August 2022 but remained in Sri Lanka.

An alumni of Visaka Vidyalaya Colombo, she is a scholar of exceptional calibre who has actively participated in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including debating, athletics, swimming, and drama. She holds a Masters of Arts in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights, University of Oslo, Norway and has further honed her expertise with qualifications in forensic medicine, human rights, and cybercrime. Imparted her knowledge as a visiting lecturer in human rights at the University of Colombo and Moratuwa.
On the international stage, she has represented Sri Lanka, addressing critical issues such as Human Rights, Gender Equality in countries such as Columbia, USA, UK, India and Malaysia and trainer on cybercrime and combating drug trafficking conducted by USA. Gender Representative for the Indian Ocean region, appointed by the Commonwealth Magistrates’ Judges’ Association (CMJA).

Has Represented Sri Lanka as a Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, Guest Speaker, as a Panelist and a Presenter at numerous National and International Legal Conferences which included: International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), National Association of Women Judges (NAWJ), CMJA and other National Conferences at the University of Colombo, Jaffna and Private Universities on topics relating to AI, Cyber Crime, HumanRights, Gender Based Violence and child rights. Served as an expert panel member to review M.Phil/Ph.D presentations at the University of Colombo. She represented Sri Lanka in conferences as the President of the Sri Lanka Women Lawyers Association. Was appointed as the Regional Vice President (Asia) of FIDA in 2024.

She is a Committee member of the Sri Lanka Medico Legal Society’s Women’s society. The Inaugural President of the Sri Lanka Association of Women Judges (SLAWJ) in
March 2025.
