Supreme Court Internship Programme for Law Students

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka held a special programme to mark the successful completion of the internship programme of the Faculty of Law, University of Jaffna, while recognising the continuing internship programme of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.

The occasion was graced by His Lordship the Hon. Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Hon. Justice Achala Wengappuli, and Hon. Justice Arjuna Obeyesekere, together with Hon. Manodhi Hewawasam, Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hon. Abimanee Senevirathna, Deputy Registrar, Hon. Tharindu Weerasena Deputy Registrar, officials of the Supreme Court Registry, and participating law students.

A total of 16 students from the University of Jaffna completed their internship from 07 September to 02 October 2026, while 49 students from the University of Colombo commenced their internship on 21 September 2026, continuing until 18 December 2026.

The programme provides law students with valuable practical exposure to the functioning of the Court, Registry procedures, court administration, and the administration of justice.

During the occasion, His Lordship the Hon. Chief Justice addressed the interns, sharing valuable guidance and insights. Certificates were subsequently presented to the University of Jaffna interns to mark the successful completion of their internship programme.

The programme concluded with group photographs commemorating the occasion.
